While hosting an outdoor event in the Pacific Northwest seems like less of an option during the cold and rainy winter months, selecting a cozy or elegant indoor venue, safe from the dreary doldrums and catered with winter flavors, can lead to an absolutely stunning experience.

Rain, snow, wind…weather – nothing (well, almost nothing) can put a stop to your celebration! Particularly when folks are looking for some fun in the dark months of January, local venues and even those cozied up at the foot of Mount Hood will leave your guests quite impressed. Imagine big stone fireplaces, rustic chandeliers, and falling snow outside the dining room windows. Or, if you’re wanting something exceptionally elegant, think about a city spot, overlooking the downtown lights, and donned with elegant fixtures and flowers.

Décor
Speaking of flowers, just the right type of décor, appropriate for the winter season, makes all the difference. Somehow pastel colored tablecloths and Mason jars filled with zinnias and cosmos just don’t feel right as we see February 14th just around the corner. Instead, opt for seasonal decorations, flowers, and feel. Select things that fit in with the time of year. Winter whites, black, deep red, and even rich purples are wonderful winter colors. Paper whites, fresh greenery, and roses always fit well for centerpieces in the winter. And, don’t forget the lighting. As the days are darker, opt for creating a brighter and bolder atmosphere with appropriate lighting during your winter events.

Flavors
Just as décor is seasonally sensitive, so are the flavors of food. You always want to select the freshest food for the season, and appropriate for the weather. Heartier, warm dishes are appreciated in the colder, winter months.  Warm artichoke dip, crab cakes, and stuffed mushrooms feel appropriate for winter appetizers, as do meals like prime rib or tenderloin. Even chicken alfredo, herbed pork tenderloin, or stuffed squash warm the hearts and souls of your guests, while still offering the elegance and special experience of a catered menu. And, for desserts, think about pies and cobblers to finish off the evening.

You want to offer your guests the best – in every season. And when it comes to winter in the Northwest, the options are exquisite.
