While we love to celebrate events in every season, spring in the Northwest is a lovely, but also rather unpredictable time of year. As you plan your springtime event, from arranging a bright and cheery venue, selecting fresh flowers and local food, keep in mind all the glory that the blooming season in Oregon has to offer!

Venue

Because we all know the spring season may come in like a lamb and leave like a lion, or just the opposite, AND provide us with all the weather in between, opting for an indoor venue this time of year is best, or at least an outdoor area with an indoor option in case of inclement weather. There’s nothing worse than a soggy set of guests! That said, all the blossoms and greenery that spring in Oregon has to offer should not be missed! Seek out venues in all areas of Portland, the Colombia River Gorge, and even the foothills that provide large beaming windows to reveal the colors outside. Green, green, green – and perhaps if you catch a sunny day for your springtime event, you can arrange for a setup to reveal the stunning glory of Mt. Hood!

Flowers and Décor

So what are the flowers that highlight the season of spring in the Northwest? While we are all too familiar with the delicate beauty that springtime Tulips offer, which really should be included in any springtime event, the Northwest offers so much more! Consider donning and adorning with the ever recognizable but not always namable Ranunculus and Anemone flowers. They are stunning! And, if you love purple and white, think about lilacs and the intoxicating aromas these beauties offer. Peonies offer delightful perfumes and are in peak bloom during the spring months, as are Hyacinth and my personal favorite, Sweet Peas. Springtime truly can offer the most gorgeous and unique varieties in bouquet blooms, along with the abundance of greens and fresh ferns!

Fresh Food

We live in the Northwest, and we are all about fresh, local, and seasonal foods. Those that springtime has to offer are absolutely delicious! Think strawberries, rhubarb, artichokes and asparagus, fresh peas, cucumber, and herbs and greens. Exotic salad greens, wild mushrooms, and all the fresh herbs begin to bloom in March. Oh, and the cold-water seafood this time of year is truly out of this world! But, you already knew that, you live here!
Seasonal options you’ll love in the spring:

• Stuffed Squash
• Fresh Green Salad
• Pea Salad with Bacon
• Pesto Pea Pasta Salad with Parmesan
• Japanese Cucumber Salad
• Shrimp Pasta Salad
• Spinach Salad with Fresh Fruit
• Cold Poached Salmon with Creamy Dill Sauce

So, the options are endless. Pick a place, adorn with beauty, and nosh on all the goodness that the Northwest has to offer this time of year.
